The Wall…Orvieto, Italy

(Painted en plein air on location)
Orvieto, north of Rome in Umbria, is a Medieval walled city. 1000 feet above the modern city is the old town. Perched atop volcanic uplift, the medieval town is very charming with great restaurants, B and Bs, churches and an impressive Cathedral. The best part is the wall, a surrounding rampant that protected the town from warring city-states. An artist’s paradise, I could paint the scenes from that wall for months and never grow weary.
